View profile of LEXIA AvvocatiThe first employee turns a company into an employer, and in Italy that triggers a separate registration. INPS, the social security institute, opens a contribution position for the employer, and the request must go in after the hire and in any case before the contribution deadline, the 16th day of the month after the one the contributions relate to. Each month then brings payslips, withholding and contributions, calculated under the collective agreement that applies to the sector.
Ask a prospective firm which collective agreements it applies, whether it also arranges the workplace insurance registration, and how it deals with a founder who is not in Italy. Check whether payslips and queries can reach you in English, and whether the firm can pay the monthly dues on your behalf.
Thirty-seven firms in Italy offer payroll: 31 accounting firms, 4 corporate service providers and 2 law firms. Twenty-two are small, 9 medium-sized and 6 part of large networks. All 37 work in Italian and 33 in English, 9 in French and 6 in Spanish. Thirty-five also offer accounting, so books and payslips can sit together. They are concentrated in Milan with 20, then Rome with 12 and Turin with 5. A company with no staff yet can start from the Italy guide.

View profile of Fidea Corporate Service SrlINPS says the request is sent after the first hire, and in any case before the contribution deadline, which falls on the 16th of the month following the period the contributions cover. A payroll firm usually files it with the first payslip.
Yes, in principle. The company needs a legal representative and a provider that prepares payslips and filings locally. Ask the firm how it gets approvals from you and which language it uses for them.
Often. Thirty-five of the 37 payroll firms also offer accounting, so salary costs flow directly into the ledgers. Ask for one engagement letter covering both.
