Accountants and corporate service providers in Rome

Rome is smaller than Milan in accountancy, but larger in people. Roma Capitale’s statistical yearbook counts 2,797,266 residents at 31 December 2024, and the 20 firms on this page are mostly small practices that serve individuals and owner-managed companies alongside foreign businesses. Sixteen are accounting firms and four are law firms; none is a corporate service provider or a large network, and the median founding year among the eight that give one is 2011.

What sets the Rome profiles apart is the range of people they say they serve. Italian SMEs are named by three firms, while foreign investors, multinational groups, high-net-worth individuals, professionals, English-speaking clients and individuals relocating to Italy are each named by two. One firm names staff of international organisations and another names online sellers on marketplaces. Real estate is the sector named most, by five firms, followed by healthcare and energy with two each.

What Rome firms handle

Fifteen offer company formation, and the entity types they name are S.r.l. (five firms), representative offices (five), branches (four), the simplified S.r.l.s. (three), S.p.A. and subsidiaries (three each) and the sole proprietorship (two). A representative office is an unusual entry on a city page and worth noting: if you want a presence for marketing and liaison before you trade, ask a Rome firm whether it has set one up and how its accounts are kept.

Tax compliance is offered by all 20, and accounting by 19. Twelve offer payroll, nine VAT and eight each audit and corporate secretarial work. Residency help is offered by five firms, a virtual office by six and bank account assistance by four. If VAT is the main need, the smaller Rome group is thinner than Milan’s, so compare the Milan page. Three of the 20 publish prices, and 17 state a focus on foreign clients.

How the Rome market is built

With 16 small firms and four medium-sized ones, the Rome group is a market of personal service. You are likely to speak to the partner who will do the work, and the practice is likely to know a single sector well. That is a strength for a founder with a clear plan, such as an e-commerce business, a healthcare provider or an energy project, and a weakness for a group that needs a multi-office team and one reporting line across several countries.

Ask a Rome firm how it handles work outside office hours with a client in another time zone, whether it uses a shared online folder for documents, and who covers when the partner is away. Ask also for a written scope, since small firms often work from a short engagement letter, and a short letter can leave gaps in who files the annual accounts or the first VAT return.

Languages

Italian is the language of every Rome firm, and 18 add English. Spanish is offered by seven, which is unusually high, French by four, Chinese and Japanese by two each and Russian by one. A founder from Latin America or East Asia may find a language match here that does not exist in a larger city.

Next steps

Read the Italy guide first for the registration steps, then consider residency and visas in Italy if you plan to live in the country; the Rome firms that handle both are described on that page. For comparison, Milan has the larger market and Turin is the smaller northern alternative. Send one request through Accountanty, and after our review it goes to the Rome firms whose profiles match.

Frequently asked questions

Which languages do accountants in Rome work in?

Every Rome firm works in Italian, and 18 also use English. Seven offer Spanish, four French, two each Chinese and Japanese, and one Russian. State the language you need in the request, because the smaller groups are not available at every firm.

Do firms in Rome set up representative offices?

Five of the 20 name representative offices among the entities they handle, and four name branches. Ask whether the firm has set up the type you need and how it keeps its books, since the accounts and filings differ from those of a subsidiary.

Is there help for people relocating to Italy, not only companies?

Two firms name individuals relocating to Italy and two name high-net-worth individuals among their clients, and five offer residency and visa help. Ask what they cover and whether they work with a lawyer on the permit.

Can a Rome firm handle VAT and payroll?

Nine offer VAT and twelve payroll. If you need both in one engagement, check the profiles for the pair, or look at the Milan page, where 38 firms offer VAT and 20 offer payroll.

What if my company is registered in another Italian city?

Most work is remote and filings are made centrally, so location matters less than the match of service and language. Say where the company is registered when you send your request, and compare the Milan and Turin pages.
