Virtual office in the Isle of Man

A company incorporated under the 1931 Act must have a registered office in the Isle of Man. The Companies Registry states that Form 1 gives the intended address of the first registered office, which must be situated in the Isle of Man. For an owner abroad, a provider’s address is the usual answer, and some also offer mail handling and meeting space.

Ask whether the address can be used for the incorporation filing, how official letters are received and forwarded, how fast documents are scanned, what the contract says about ending the service, and whether the same firm also supplies officers. A registered office does not by itself give the company local substance, so ask how the firm treats that point.

Accountanty lists 9 firms for virtual office and registered office services in the Isle of Man: 6 corporate services providers, 2 accounting firms and 1 law firm. 7 are small and 2 large networks. English is used by 5, and 6 serve foreign clients. Real estate (5 firms), aviation (4) and gaming (3) are named most. See corporate secretarial and the Isle of Man guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does my company need an office on the island?

A registered office on the island is required for a 1931 Act company. Ask a provider what your chosen company type requires.

Who receives official letters sent to the registered office?

The provider receives them and passes them on as agreed. Ask how fast and in what form, since deadlines can be short.

Does a registered office count as real activity?

No, it is an address. Where tax rules ask for activity on the island, you need more than an address, so ask an adviser early.
