View profile of Sovereign GroupDouglas is the seat of the Isle of Man Companies Registry, whose address is the Registries Building on Bucks Road, and most of the island’s corporate and accounting work is done within reach of it. For a foreign founder that matters less as a matter of geography than of habit: the firms in Douglas file with the Registry every week and know how its forms are handled.
This page covers 27 accountants and corporate service providers in Douglas. Read it alongside the Isle of Man overview, which explains the two company laws and the filing steps.

Douglas
Douglas is unusual among the cities on Accountanty because the split between firm types is even. There are 13 accounting firms, 13 corporate service providers and one law firm. In practice that means you can find a firm that mainly keeps books and tax returns, one that mainly forms and administers vehicles, and some that do both.
The entities the firms name show the same tilt. Trusts come up at 15 firms and foundations at 9, ahead of ordinary companies (9 firms say “company” and 8 say “limited company”). Private trust companies, special purpose vehicles and funds each appear several times. A founder who only wants a trading company with a bank account should ask plainly whether the firm takes on that kind of work, because some Douglas firms are set up mostly for wealth structures.
The Registry offers two company laws. A 1931 Act company needs a minimum of two directors and a registered office in the Isle of Man, while a 2006 Act company can only be filed by a registered agent who holds a Class 4 licence from the Financial Services Authority. That second rule is why corporate service providers are so visible in Douglas: 24 of the 27 firms say they handle company formation, and 22 offer corporate secretarial work.
Aviation is named by 11 firms, real estate by 10 and family offices by 9. Yachting follows with 6, then eGaming and private equity with 5 each and technology with 4. Client groups point the same way: high net worth families, family offices and fund managers are named, as are people relocating to the island. Sixteen firms say they work with foreign clients.
Day-to-day services are broad. Accounting is offered by 26 firms, tax compliance by 25, VAT by 22 and payroll by 17. Bank account support comes from 12 firms, residency help from 8 and virtual office services from 9. Audit is a minority offer at 6 firms.
English is offered by 19 firms. Chinese is offered by two, French by one and Arabic by one. Seven firms belong to a large network, 17 are small practices and 3 are medium sized. If you will need a firm that also operates elsewhere, a network member is the likelier fit, and a small practice is the likelier one to give you a single named contact.
The only other town page on the island is Ballasalla, with a smaller group of firms. For an overview of costs and timing, see company formation in the Isle of Man. To have a request passed to suitable Douglas firms, use the free quote request.
Yes. 24 of the 27 firms say they handle company formation and 16 work with foreign clients. A 2006 Act company must be filed by a licensed registered agent, so ask which of the two company laws suits your plan and who acts as agent.
The split is even: 13 accounting firms, 13 corporate service providers and one law firm. Accounting firms lean to bookkeeping, tax returns and VAT. Providers lean to company administration, trusts and foundations. Ask which side the firm is strongest on.
Aviation is named by 11 firms, real estate by 10, family offices by 9 and yachting by 6. eGaming and private equity follow with 5 each. If your business is outside these fields, ask for an example of a similar client before you decide.
English is offered by 19 firms, Chinese by two, and French and Arabic by one each. Registry forms and tax correspondence are in English, so most founders need no translation, but check who your day-to-day contact would be.
Yes. Ballasalla has a page for three accounting firms, aimed at start-ups, small businesses and people relocating to the island. Douglas has the wider range of firm types, so compare both before you choose.
