Accountants for foreign clients in Norway

A foreign client needs more than the yearly accounts. Altinn states that foreign companies carrying out commercial activity in Norway are obliged to register, and the paperwork for a branch or a company with foreign owners differs from that of a domestic business. A firm used to this knows where a foreign passport, a foreign registry extract or a foreign board member changes the process.

Ask how many foreign-owned companies the firm serves and which countries they come from. Check the languages on the profile, and whether letters, contracts and reports are in English or only the calls. Ask which entity types it handles and whether it can act as VAT representative if you need one. Ask who answers the email, a named accountant or a shared desk.

Thirty of the 36 firms in Norway have a focus on foreign clients: 27 accounting firms, two law firms and one corporate service provider. Twelve are small, 13 medium-sized and five part of large networks. Twenty-six offer English and 26 Norwegian, five offer Polish, and four each French, Italian and German. Construction, real estate, e-commerce, start-ups and energy are the sectors named most. Nineteen offer company formation. Most sit in Oslo; Italian speakers are on Italian-speaking accountants in Norway. The Norway guide covers the steps, or request a quote.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a firm suited to foreign clients?

Experience with foreign owners, English-language reporting and familiarity with AS and NUF formations for non-resident founders. The profile shows languages and client focus; ask for examples of similar clients.

Do I need a Norwegian address or partner to use one?

Not to engage the firm. The company itself has rules on who may sit on its board, so ask the firm how it handles founders who live abroad.

Do these firms handle both formation and later accounting?

Many do. Nineteen of the 30 offer company formation, and 29 offer accounting. Ask whether one team handles both or you will be passed on after incorporation.
