Virtual office in Norway

A virtual office gives a company a business address in Norway without a desk, usually with mail handling and sometimes a meeting room by the hour. For a foreign-owned company it can supply the address that appears in the register and on invoices. It does not satisfy the other duties of a Norwegian company: a board must still be appointed, the rules on who may sit on it still apply, and the company still needs to file its accounts.

Before taking one, ask what the address is registered for, whether it is accepted by your bank, and how post is handled and forwarded. Ask whether the provider will receive official letters from the tax office or registry and tell you the same day. Check the contract length, what is included in the price, and what happens to the address if you leave. If you plan to hire staff in Norway, ask whether a shared address will still do.

This is the smallest list in Norway: three firms on Accountanty offer a virtual office, two accounting firms and one corporate service provider, all medium-sized. English is offered by all three and Norwegian by two, and all three work with foreign clients. They name construction, beauty, hospitality and catering among their client sectors. For the formation steps, see company formation in Norway or the Norway guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I register a Norwegian company at a virtual office address?

Possibly, but the provider and the registry decide what is accepted. Ask the provider in writing that the address can be used for registration.

Does a virtual office count as a place of business for tax?

This is a tax question that depends on the activity. Ask a tax adviser before you rely on a mail address for your tax position.

What should I check in the contract?

Look at the length of commitment, what mail handling covers, the fee for forwarding and the notice you must give. Also ask how official letters are passed to you.
