Bank account assistance in Qatar

A local bank account is a legal requirement for a foreign investment project in Qatar, not a convenience. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry states on its foreign investor page that a non-Qatari investor setting up a project must open an account with a bank operating in the State of Qatar. In practice the bank will want the commercial registration, the licence, the articles and identity papers for the owners and signatories, and an explanation of where the money comes from.

A firm cannot open the account for you, but it can prepare the file, choose a bank whose policy fits your structure and activity, and book the meetings. Ask which banks it has worked with in the past year, whether a signatory must attend in person, and what the bank asks of a parent company abroad. Ask too what the firm charges if the first bank says no and the file has to go to a second one.

Accountanty lists 12 firms that help with bank accounts in Qatar: nine corporate service providers and three accounting firms. Ten say they focus on foreign clients, and English is offered by nine and Arabic by five. All of them are in Doha. See also company formation in Qatar.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Qatari bank account for my company?

Yes, if you are a foreign investor with a project in Qatar. MOCI requires an account with a bank operating in the country, and you will need it to pay salaries and the government's charges.

Can the account be opened before the company is registered?

Banks generally ask for the commercial registration and licence first, so the account usually follows registration. Ask your firm which documents to have attested at home so the bank file is ready on time.

Do bank account firms in Qatar also form the company?

All 12 firms on Accountanty that help with bank accounts also offer company formation, and ten of them help with residence and visas, so one engagement can cover the whole start-up stage.
