Audit in Qatar

For a foreign-owned company in Qatar the audit is not optional. The General Tax Authority’s investors guide says that returns of fully foreign-owned companies, and of companies with Qatari and foreign partners, must be supported by audited financial statements from a licensed auditor registered with the authority, regardless of capital or income. The profession itself is regulated by Law No. 8 of 2020, which MOCI lists on its local investor page.

Ask a firm for the licence of the partner who will sign, and whether that partner is registered with the GTA. If your company sits in the QFC or a free zone, ask whether the firm is approved to audit there: some listed firms declare approval as auditors for the QFC and the Qatar Free Zones, and some as Qatar Central Bank approved auditors. Ask how the firm stays independent if it also keeps your books, when it needs the trial balance and whether it can work with your group auditor abroad.

Accountanty lists 22 firms offering audit in Qatar: 15 accounting firms and seven corporate service providers. Fifteen are small, three medium-sized and four part of large networks. English is offered by 11 and Arabic by four. See Doha and Lusail.

Frequently asked questions

Does a small foreign-owned company in Qatar need an audit?

Yes, for its tax return. The General Tax Authority asks foreign-owned companies for audited statements whatever their capital or income, so plan the audit into your first year's budget.

Can the same firm keep my books and audit them?

Ask the firm directly how it separates the two roles. Many owners use one firm for bookkeeping and another for the audit, so the auditor can review the figures independently.

How many audit firms in Qatar focus on foreign clients?

Eight of the 22 audit firms on Accountanty say they focus on foreign clients. Foreign investors, SMEs and start-ups are the client groups the audit firms name most often.
