Virtual office in Portugal

A virtual office gives a company a business address, usually with mail handling, without renting a desk. For a foreign-owned Portuguese company it can serve as the registered address, the one the tax authority and the registry use for official letters. The service is practical for remote founders, but the address must be real, the provider must forward mail promptly and the arrangement must suit the activity you carry out.

Before you rely on one, ask whether the address is accepted for company registration and bank onboarding, how post is scanned or forwarded, whether the provider receives official notices on your behalf and what happens to them. Some activities need premises, and some banks look closely at an address that is shared by many companies. Check the contract term and what the firm does if you cancel.

Accountanty lists 31 firms in Portugal that offer a virtual office: 24 accounting firms, 6 corporate services providers and 1 law firm. Twenty-three offer English and 22 Portuguese. Real estate, startups and freelancers are the industries named most. Read about company formation next, or start with the Portugal guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I register a Portuguese company at a virtual office address?

Many providers offer addresses for that purpose, but you should confirm with the firm that the address is accepted for the registry and for bank onboarding, and that the contract names you as the user.

Will the virtual office receive tax authority letters?

Official letters go to the registered address, so ask the provider how it handles them: scanning, forwarding by post or email, and how quickly. Missed official notices can carry deadlines.

Is a virtual office enough if I hire staff?

It depends on your activity. A virtual address does not provide workspace, so employees need somewhere to work. Ask your adviser whether a virtual address fits the activity before you sign.
