View profile of Almeida & AssociadosIf you own a Portuguese company from abroad, you need an accountant who works in your language, understands how your home country treats a foreign subsidiary or branch and can explain Portuguese rules without assuming prior knowledge. A non-resident shareholder also needs a Portuguese tax identifier first, and the law requires non-residents to obtain it, and the route differs for people from EU or EEA countries and from other countries, a point to raise on a first call.
Use the profile fields to shortlist: languages offered, the client groups the firm names (expats, foreign investors, digital nomads, non-resident taxpayers), the entity types it handles and whether it describes its fees. Ask for an example of a client in a similar position and how reports reach you. For the legal steps of setting up, see the Portugal guide; to find providers who do the work, see company formation.
Accountanty lists 90 firms in Portugal that say they serve foreign clients: 66 accounting firms, 14 corporate services providers and 10 law firms. English is offered by 86 of them, Portuguese by 68, Spanish by 24 and French by 24. Real estate and startups are the industries named most. You can compare them in Lisbon and Porto, or send one request through Get a quote.

View profile of ACOQ - Tax & Business ConsultancyAsk which languages the team works in, how often it reports to you, which tax and accounting tasks are included in the fee, how it deals with your home country's reporting needs and who your day-to-day contact will be.
A non-resident shareholder needs one to take part in a Portuguese company. Many firms help you obtain it, so ask about it at the start, together with whether you need a representative in Portugal.
Language helps, but also check experience with foreign-owned companies, tax filings in your country of residence and the entity type you use. A firm that serves expats and foreign investors regularly will have handled most of your questions before.
