Virtual office in Jersey

A Jersey company cannot exist without an address on the island. The Jersey Financial Services Commission states that the law requires a company to have a registered office in Jersey at all times, and that the occupier of the premises must authorise its use. For a founder who lives elsewhere, a virtual office or a registered office service from a provider is the practical answer.

A registered address is not a workplace. Ask what the service includes: mail handling and forwarding, meeting rooms, a phone line, a named contact. Ask also whether the provider is the company secretary, since the two services are often sold together, and what happens to the address if you change provider.

Accountanty shows 23 firms offering virtual office or registered office services in Jersey: 19 corporate services providers, 2 accounting firms and 2 law firms. Medium firms are the biggest group at 9, followed by 8 large networks and 6 small practices. English is available everywhere on the page, and 11 firms say they take foreign-owned companies as clients. Funds and real estate each appear at 15 firms. Combine the address with corporate secretarial support, and read the Jersey guide for the full setup.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a physical office in Jersey?

You need a registered office on the island, but not a workplace. A provider can supply the registered address, and you choose whether you also need desks or meeting rooms.

Who handles the post sent to my Jersey address?

The provider receives it. Ask whether it scans, forwards or holds the post, and how quickly, because official letters can carry deadlines.

Can I use a home address as my registered office?

Only if the occupier authorises it and you actually have one on the island. For most foreign founders a provider's address is simpler.
