Accounting and bookkeeping in Jersey

A Jersey company has to keep proper accounting records from its first day, and the directors answer for them. The Jersey Financial Services Commission states that directors must prepare accounts for a period of not more than 18 months. For a founder based abroad, the work is usually ordinary bookkeeping, year-end accounts and a tidy set of records that the board can sign off without flying in.

When you compare profiles, check which entity types a firm handles, whether it works with companies owned from abroad, and which sectors it names. A firm used to fund vehicles will run a trading company differently from one that mostly serves local small businesses. Ask also whether bookkeeping, accounts and tax return are quoted together or separately.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Jersey accountant if my company has no staff?

The directors are still responsible for accounts and records, so most owners hand the work to a firm. Ask whether the fee covers bookkeeping, year-end accounts and the annual tax return, or only some of them.

Can an accountant deal with the Registry filings too?

Many of the firms on this page also act as corporate service providers, so one team can look after both the books and the Registry filings. Check this in the profile before you ask for a quote.

Do Jersey accountants work with clients who live abroad?

23 of the 52 firms say they serve foreign clients. Ask how they handle remote approvals, document signing and communication across time zones.
