VAT in Lithuania

VAT is the tax that reaches a foreign-owned Lithuanian company soonest if it sells goods or services. The questions come in a fixed order: whether the company must register or chooses to, how to invoice business customers in other EU countries, what applies to sales to consumers abroad, and how often returns are due. The standard rate is 21%, and the European Commission gives the national annual threshold as 45 000 EUR, with no transitional period once it is exceeded during the year.

What to ask a VAT firm in Lithuania

Ask whether the firm files your VAT returns as part of the monthly service or charges per return. If you sell online, ask whether it has worked with marketplaces and payment platforms, and how it reconciles their reports with the bank. Ask who monitors the threshold so you know when registration becomes compulsory, and whether the firm handles the EU’s one-stop shop for distance sales or registrations in other member states. For goods moving across borders, ask about the recapitulative statements for intra-EU supplies.
