Tax compliance in Lithuania

Tax compliance for a Lithuanian company covers the corporate income tax return, the VAT returns once the company is registered, and the declarations an employer files for wages. A foreign owner adds questions of their own: where the company is resident for tax, how profit can be paid out to a parent or shareholder abroad, and whether a director living in another country creates obligations there. From 2026 the Seimas raised the standard and reduced corporate income tax rates to 17% and 7%; whether the reduced rate applies depends on conditions a firm can check for you.

What to ask about tax compliance in Lithuania

Ask which returns the firm files for you and on what calendar, and whether it sends you a list of deadlines at the start of the year. Ask who is your contact if the tax authority writes with a question, and whether the firm replies on your behalf. If you will pay dividends or management fees to a company abroad, ask whether the firm checks the treaty position and the withholding rules before the payment, not after. Ask how it works with your adviser at home so the two positions match.

Frequently asked questions

Who files my Lithuanian company's tax returns?

The company is responsible, and most foreign owners appoint an accounting firm to prepare and submit the returns. Agree in writing which returns are covered and who answers letters from the tax authority.

Can a firm advise on paying dividends to a parent abroad?

Many can. Ask before the payment whether the firm checks the tax treaty and the withholding rules, and whether it coordinates with your adviser in the parent company's country.

Do firms on this page work with non-resident owners?

Thirty-eight of the 115 say foreign clients are a focus, and 64 offer English. Mention where you and the other shareholders live when you request a quote.
