Bank account assistance in Sweden

A Swedish company needs a business bank account to receive payments, settle its tax and pay staff, and for owners who live abroad this is often the slowest step of the set-up. Swedish banks carry out their own customer checks before they open an account: they want to understand who owns and controls the company, where the money will come from and what the business will do. Business Sweden’s 2026 guide to limited companies describes account opening as normally quite time consuming because of KYC and anti-money-laundering checks, especially when no board member or managing director lives in Sweden.

Bank account assistance means a firm prepares that file with you: it collects the registry extract, the ownership chart, identification for the board and the beneficial owners, and a short description of the business, then helps you answer the bank’s follow-up questions. No adviser can promise that a bank will say yes, so be wary of any quote that does.

Ask a firm which Swedish banks it has worked with in the past year, whether a director must attend a meeting in person, how long applications have taken for clients in your position, and whether its fee depends on the outcome.

Twelve firms on Accountanty offer this in Sweden: nine accounting firms, two corporate service providers and one law firm. Six are small, four medium-sized and two belong to large networks, and seven focus on foreign clients. Seven are in Stockholm, four in Gothenburg and one in Lidingö. The legal steps before the bank are covered in the Sweden guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I open a Swedish business bank account without living in Sweden?

It can be done, but each bank decides case by case after its own customer checks, and some ask a director to attend in person. A firm that has handled applications for foreign owners can tell you which documents to prepare first.

How many firms on Accountanty help with bank accounts in Sweden?

Twelve: nine accounting firms, two corporate service providers and one law firm. Seven of them say they focus on foreign clients and seven work in English, which helps when the bank's questions arrive in Swedish.

What does a Swedish bank usually ask a foreign-owned company for?

Expect requests for the registry extract, an ownership chart down to the individuals who control the company, identification for directors and owners, and a description of the business and its expected payments. Each bank sets its own list.
