View profile of Adact Revisorer & Konsulter ABAccountanty lists 29 firms in Gothenburg, the second-largest group in Sweden after Stockholm. Every one of them is an accounting firm: there are no corporate service providers or law firms on the Gothenburg list, and no office of a large international network. Twenty-four are small practices and five are medium-sized. For a foreign owner, that profile means the typical Gothenburg engagement is with a local bureau where the person who quotes is often the person who keeps the books.

View profile of Vi Redovisar ABAll 29 Gothenburg firms handle tax compliance and 28 keep accounts. Twenty-seven register companies, and 26 each file VAT and run payroll, so the core compliance cycle is covered almost everywhere on the list. Eight offer audit, six act as company secretary and four help open a business bank account. Only one Gothenburg firm provides a virtual office, and none lists help with residence or work permits.
That pattern shapes how a company owned from abroad should plan. If you will have staff, premises or a director living in the Gothenburg area, the local firms cover the monthly work well. If you need a registered address without an office, or permits for people moving from outside the EU, expect to use a second provider; on Accountanty those services sit mainly with Stockholm firms, as the virtual office and residency and visas pages show.
Gothenburg firms lean towards owner-run businesses. Limited companies are named by 15 firms in those words and by several more as aktiebolag, sole proprietorships by 14 and trading partnerships by 11. Four each mention economic associations and limited partnerships, and two name foundations or sell shelf companies. Branches, holding companies and a Greek private company (IKE) appear once each. The mix suggests firms that mostly serve founders who live locally, so if you are setting up from abroad, ask each candidate how many of its clients are owned from outside Sweden.
The Sweden guide sets out the legal steps, and the company formation in Sweden page explains how to choose who registers the company.
Construction and restaurants are the sectors named most often by Gothenburg firms, three each. Two firms each mention real estate, e-commerce, cleaning, consulting, healthcare and retail. Single firms name recruitment agencies, cryptocurrency, freelancers, transport, taxis and car trading. If your trade is on that list, ask the firm how many similar clients it keeps books for.
Start-ups are the client group mentioned most, by nine Gothenburg firms, followed by small businesses with seven and sole traders and small and medium-sized companies with four each. Three name owner-managed companies, and two each name new business owners and associations. Single profiles name Arabic-speaking entrepreneurs, foreign individuals and companies establishing in Sweden, and foreign employers with staff in Sweden. Six of the 29 say they focus on foreign clients; the accountants for foreign clients page lists them with the Stockholm firms that do the same.
Thirteen Gothenburg firms work in Swedish and nine in English. Two offer Arabic, and single firms work in Greek, Russian, Estonian, Latvian, Assyrian and Kurdish. Fewer than a third state English, so check before a first call that the person handling your account will write to you in English.
Credentials named by Gothenburg firms include authorisation through Srf konsulterna, FAR membership with quality control, authorised auditors and authorised accounting consultants under the REKO standard. One firm says it has been a registered audit firm since 2000. Ten firms state a founding year: the oldest dates from 1974 and the median from 2001. Nine publish their prices, a higher share than in Stockholm, which makes a first comparison easier.
Start with the firms that state English and have worked with your company type, then ask who will keep the books, who files the returns and, if you need one, which partner firm will sign the audit. Mölndal, a separate municipality next to Gothenburg, has its own Mölndal page, and single firms in Kungsbacka, Sävedalen, Surte, Särö and Lerum appear on the Sweden page. For a wider choice, compare the Stockholm list, or send one quote request and Accountanty passes it to firms that fit.
Twenty-nine, all of them accounting firms. Twenty-four are small and five medium-sized, and six say they focus on foreign clients. None belongs to a large international network.
Eight Gothenburg firms offer audit. Many auditors will not audit books they keep themselves, so ask whether the firm uses separate teams or whether you should appoint a different firm for the audit.
One Gothenburg firm offers a virtual office and none lists residence or work permit help. Owners who need either usually add a second provider, and on Accountanty those services sit mainly with Stockholm firms.
Nine of the 29 state English, and two also offer Arabic. Ask in the first message whether reports, invoices for the firm's own fees and letters about your filings will come in English.
