View profile of 1Office Sweden ABVAT is often the first recurring filing a new Swedish company meets, well before its first annual accounts. A company owned from abroad registers with Skatteverket, charges Swedish VAT on taxable sales, deducts the VAT on its business purchases and reports both in periodic returns. Skatteverket’s VAT registration page requires registration for VAT-liable activity once annual turnover for the calendar year exceeds SEK 120,000, and allows voluntary registration below that. Its VAT guidance adds that a return must be filed for each reporting period even when there is no VAT to report. Sales to customers in other EU countries, imports and services bought from foreign suppliers each have their own reporting rules. Those cross-border flows are where a company with a foreign parent tends to make mistakes.

Ask how it treats services invoiced by your parent company, goods shipped from another EU country and any EU sales lists you need to submit. Confirm who answers a VAT query from Skatteverket.

Skatteverket requires registration for VAT-liable activity once annual turnover for the calendar year exceeds SEK 120,000, and a company can register voluntarily below that. Ask your adviser to confirm the position in writing before the first invoice goes out.
Yes. Seventy-six firms on Accountanty handle VAT in Sweden, 33 of them focused on foreign clients and 35 working in English. Agree who approves each return and how the payment leaves the company account.
Sales and purchase invoices, bank statements, customs papers for imports and the contracts behind any services bought from outside Sweden. If the same firm keeps the books, it can pull most of this from the ledger.
