View profile of KEYBIZ CPAs & AdvisorsA Turkish company needs a local bank account to receive its capital and to pay salaries, taxes and suppliers, and for a company owned from abroad, opening it is often the step that takes longest. Banks check who owns and controls the company, where its money comes from and what the business will do, and they may ask a director or shareholder to attend in person. Requirements differ from one bank to the next, so a firm that knows several of them can tell you what to prepare before the appointment.

View profile of Doing Business in Türkiye (Bilgener Integrated Corporate Services Inc.)Ask which banks the firm works with and what each usually asks of foreign shareholders: passports, proof of address, company documents from abroad, and translations or apostilles. Ask whether anyone has to come to Turkey, and if so for how many appointments. Ask whether the firm attends the meeting with you and interprets, what it charges, and whether part of the fee depends on the account being opened. If you will also live in Turkey, ask about a personal account at the same time.
Seventeen firms on Accountanty help with bank accounts in Turkey: 11 accounting firms, three law firms and three corporate service providers, all small except one medium-sized firm. Sixteen have a foreign-client focus. All 17 offer English and 12 Turkish, while Arabic and Russian are each offered by five. Every one also handles company formation, and 12 handle residency and visas. Thirteen are in Istanbul. The bank comes after registration, which is covered under company formation in Turkey.
Often at least one visit is needed, but it depends on the bank and on who must be identified. Ask the firm what each bank it works with requires and whether any steps can be done through a power of attorney.
No. Approval rests with the Turkish bank alone, after it has reviewed your file and the people behind the company. A firm can prepare your file, explain what the bank is looking for and go to the meeting with you, which makes delays less likely.
