Residency and visas in Cyprus

Moving to Cyprus to run a company brings a separate set of questions from setting the company up. Citizens of the EU register their residence, while people from outside the EU need a permit to live and work. The route depends on nationality, purpose and length of stay, and permits are decided by the migration authorities, never by the firm that helps you apply.

What a firm can do is prepare the application, check that the company side supports it, and keep the file moving. Ask which permit types it handles in general terms, such as employment, self-employment or business routes. Ask who collects the supporting documents, how a refusal would be handled, and what is charged on top of official fees. Look at the languages on the profile as well, since forms and interviews can be in Greek or English.

Accountanty lists 129 firms in Cyprus that offer residency and visa support: 54 corporate services providers, 53 accounting firms and 22 law firms. Clients can be served in English at 76 firms, in Russian at 32 and in Greek at 26, while 113 report foreign clients among theirs. Thirteen publish pricing. Read the Cyprus guide for the company side, or compare practices in Limassol and Paphos.

Frequently asked questions

Does owning a company in Cyprus give me the right to live there?

Not by itself. Residence follows its own rules by nationality and purpose. Ask a firm to assess your permit route separately from the company set-up.

Who issues the permit?

A government authority decides the application. A firm prepares and submits it and tracks progress. Ask which authority the firm says it deals with for your case.

Can the company sponsor staff from outside the EU?

Employers can often apply for permits for the people they intend to hire, subject to conditions. Ask a firm to check the conditions before you set a start date.
