Tax compliance in Spain

Tax compliance covers the returns and payments a company owes during the year and at its close. For a Spanish company the main one is corporate income tax, charged at a general rate of 25 per cent, with different treatment for some new and smaller companies. A foreign owner also has to consider how dividends, management fees and group charges are treated across borders.

A good firm tells you the calendar in advance, files on your behalf and explains any notice from the tax office. In a profile, check whether the firm names international tax or non-resident work, which languages it uses with clients, and whether it says it can act before the authorities.

Every one of the 669 firms listed for Spain offers this service: 579 accounting firms, 71 law firms and 19 corporate services providers. English is offered by 286 and French by 79. Real estate is the most frequently named industry, at 116 firms. If you only need a registration or a return, start from the Spain guide and then use the quote form.

Frequently asked questions

Which tax returns will my Spanish company file?

Expect at least the corporate income tax return each year, periodic VAT returns once you invoice, and payroll filings if you employ staff. The exact list depends on your activity, so ask a firm for a written calendar.

Can a firm file taxes for me without my being in Spain?

Usually yes, with a signed authorisation. Ask the firm how it holds that authority, how it reports back to you, and who is responsible if a filing is late.
