VAT in Poland

For a company selling into or from Poland, VAT is the filing that comes round most often. The services are registration as a VAT payer, periodic returns, invoices that meet Polish rules and the treatment of sales to customers in other countries. The standard rate is 23%, with reduced rates of 8% and 5% for listed goods and services.

Registration comes before the first taxable sale, not after, so the VAT step belongs in your formation timetable. A foreign owner should also ask how the firm handles sales to other EU countries and purchases from suppliers abroad, since the documents differ from a purely domestic sale.

Use the profile to see whether the firm lists VAT as its own service, which industries it names and which languages it speaks. Ask how often it files for clients like you, how it receives your invoices and who contacts the tax office if a return is queried.

Frequently asked questions

When do I register for VAT in Poland?

Registration is filed before the first sale of goods or services subject to VAT. A company that plans to invoice from its first week should treat registration as part of incorporation, not as a later task.

Can a firm handle VAT for sales to other EU countries?

Many can, but not all do. Ask whether the firm files the cross-border statements, how it checks customer VAT numbers and whether it has clients selling the same way you do. The profile lists industries and client groups served.

Is there an invoicing system I have to use?

Poland is introducing mandatory e-invoicing through the KSeF system in stages, and the Ministry of Finance publishes the dates. Ask your firm which date applies to your company and whether its software is already connected.
